Bertuzzi out, Andersson up

on

With the injuries counting to mount for the Detroit Red Wings, they have once again dipped into their reserves.

Forward Joakim Andersson, 24, has been called up from the Grand Rapids Griffins to fill in for Todd Bertuzzi whose chronic bad back is acting up again.

In 36 games with the Griffins this season, the Griffins number one centre has 10 goals and 27 points. The 6’2″ 205 Andersson is lauded for his strong two-way game and head coach Mike Babcock has been high on the Swede for a while now. He played five games for the Wings last year.

I’ll be interested to see if he’s still wearing his 63 from last year or if they give him a real number

Good pick up. I like that they went Andersson instead of Nyquist, I feel Andersson plays with a little more grit, more like Bertuzzi, whereas Nyquist is like a faster Filppula.
