Red Wings Look To End Home Skid Against Carolina

Carolina Hurricanes (8-9-4) @ Detroit Red Wings (9-6-7)

Time: 7:30 pm ET

TV: FS-Detroit, SportsNet South

This is the 2nd of 3 meetings between the Hurricanes and Red Wings, with Detroit taking the first match in Raleigh 3-2 in OT on October 4th. The Red Wings haven’t won a game since November 2nd, and haven’t won at Joe Louis Arena in 8 games. It’s their longest home skid since 1986.

The Red Wings will get some jump back in their offense with Gustav Nyquist being called up from Grand Rapids. It’s Nyquist’s first appearance in Detroit this season after being here for the latter part of last season. Room for Nyquist was made on the roster when defenseman Danny DeKeyser was injured in the Wings loss to Nashville on Tuesday. DeKeyser suffered a separated shoulder after he was hit by Patric Hornqvist in the 1st period. He’s expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Stephen Weiss and Daniel Alfredsson are also expected to miss tonight’s game with groin injuries.

The Hurricanes have lost 4 straight games, but will get a little offense of their own back tonight as Jeff Skinner returns from IR. Goaltender Cam Ward is expected to play in his 2nd game since returning on Monday from a groin injury.

Prior to the game, the Red Wings will honor recent Hall of Fame inductee Brendan Shanahan. No better time to break a home winless streak than when Shanny is in the house. Let’s go Wings!
