Castellanos, Cabrera Power Tigers To 10-1 Win Over Phils


CLEARWATER, Fla. --- The Detroit Tigers improved to 2-1-1 in Spring Training play thanks to a 10-1 slugfest win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon in Clearwater. Top prospect Nick Castellanos, as well as reigning MVP Miguel Cabrera highlighted a 6-run 5th with a long ball each. It was Miggy's 2nd home run of the Spring. In relief of Cabrera, Kevin Russo joined the fun with a 9th inning homer.

Drew Smyly got his 1st start of Spring Training, and faced the minimum 6 batters while only giving up 1 hit. In relief, Darin Downs also pitched a pair of scoreless innings while striking out 3 Phillies. Casey Crosby picks up the win for Detroit, and Jonathan Papelbon gets tagged for the loss for Philadelphia.

The boys continue Grapefruit League play tomorrow at 1:05 pm in Kissimmee against the Houston Astros. Doug Fister gets the call, going up against Erik Bedard. In Detroit, 97.1 THE TICKET has the call. GO TIGERS!
