The NFL offseason is in full swing. That means that there is plenty of speculation around the league, and as always, the Detroit Lions have plenty to speculate about. I recently had the chance to discuss Detroit Lions football with Mike O'Hara of Detroitlions.com, so I took the chance to ask him some tough questions that have been nagging at Lions fans.
TN: Arguably some of the biggest news this offseason is that the Lions have decided not to exercise Nick Fairley's 5th year option on his contract. Can Nick Fairley use this as inspiration to play harder? Or is it too little too late for Fairley?
Mike: He should be able to. He has tremendous athletic ability, and also the ability to make big plays. It's never to late for a player in their 4th season to turn things around.
TN: Ndamakong Suh may become the highest paid DT in the NFL, but can the Lions afford to put that much stock into one player? Even if it is Suh?
Mike: I can understand the angst, but he is a legit all-pro DT. He is always in shape, and he plays hard every down. Live with the drama.
TN: Can a healthy Jason Jones solidify the Detroit Lions defensive line? Can he be the pass rusher we need?
Mike: He is more of an outside contain lineman, but he can play very strong inside. He has to stay healthy above all.
TN: How will Mathew Stafford adjust to a new offense? Some Lions fans are extremely worried about the QB position, but should they be?
Mike: No worries about the QB. He is the least of their concerns.
With the NFL Draft coming up, it will be interesting to see exactly which needs the Detroit Lions address. The Lions have the 10th overall pick in the 2014 Draft, and could take any number of talented players with that pick. For now, it seems the pieces the Lions already have are coming together nicely.
