Streaking Red Wings Head To Montreal To Cushion Playoff Position

2

Matchup: Detroit Red Wings vs. Montreal Canadiens

Venue: Bell Centre; Montreal, Ontario, Canada

Time: 7:00 PM EST

Television: DetroitFSD; National- NHL Network

The Detroit Red Wings (37-26-14, 88 points, 4th place Atlantic Division) still have a chance to catch the Montreal Candiens for third place in the Atlantic Division, though it may be a long shot. The Red Wings have been streaking as of late, winning their past four games, as they have played some very talented teams down the stretch. If the Red Wings are to catch Montreal for third in the division, it will guarantee them a playoff spot as opposed to fighting for a wild card spot. The Red Wings still remain in a prime spot to earn a playoff spot though, as they control a four point lead over ninth place Toronto with a game in hand.

The Montreal Canadiens (44-27-7, 95 points, 2nd place Atlantic Division) are in a battle of their own, though it's not for a playoff spot. The Canadiens are currently in a battle with Tampa Bay for the 2nd spot in the Atlantic Division, a race that will decide home ice advantage in the first round. Tampa currently owns a two point advantage over Montreal in the race with Tampa having a game in hand. Montreal has won six of their past seven games coming into tonight with their only loss coming to Tampa Bay.

Starting in goal for the Red Wings will be Jonas Gustavsson. The Red Wings have rarely went with Jimmy Howard on back to back nights this season and Gustavsson has proved that he can be a reliable option in net when need be.

Starting in goal for Montreal will be Carey Price. Price was in net last time the Canadiens played the Red Wings, a 5-4 victory on March 27th.
