Justin Abdelkader Suspended 3 Games from 2015 IIHF WC

The Red Wings’ Justin Abdelkader will miss the first three games of the 2015 IIHF Men’s World Championship for a hit roughly two months ago at the 2014 World Championship, of which he was captain of Team USA.

Abdelkader delivered a hard, high hit on former St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Sobotka of the Czech Republic during a quarterfinal match. He was assessed a 5-minute major and a game misconduct for the hit. There was no supplementary discipline doled out at the time, but word has been given now that he will receive a 3-game suspension for the 2015 World Championship. This could very well affect his chances of making the team next year. You’ll find the hit below. What do you think?
