Word came down Monday morning that Ken Holland and Chris Osgood had scheduled a media conference call for noon Tuesday. Later on, the Detroit Free Press announced that Osgood would be returning for one more season. Apparently, they jumped the gun a little bit, as now we have a report surfacing including quotes from Osgood’s agent that he is, in fact, going to retire. He has also accepted a job mentoring the organization’s young goalies, it is believed. Click here to read the full article from MLive.
The article also claims that Ty Conklin will be signed to backup Howard for the year. With MacDonald’s contract kicking to one-way next year, one would think he’d be the backup for 2012.
Obviously, we’ll keep you up to date on the news as it comes from Holland and Osgood themselves, but right now if I had to guess I’d say that we’ve seen the last of #30.
So long Ozzie…your contributions to the Red Wings organization mean more than many people will ever give you credit for. I know you will be successful in helping bring along our young ‘tenders.
