The Detroit Red Wings have cleared some cap space and have sent defenseman Jakub Kindl to the Florida Panthers in exchange for draft picks. According to George Richards of the Miami Herald, the Panthers get Kindl while the Red Wings get a 6th round draft pick in 2017. Detroit will also retain 15% of Kindl’s salary on the deal ($360k) that runs through next season. Kindl’s cap hit is $2.4 million.

The move is a bit questionable considering Kindl has been put on waivers multiple times this seasonĀ and was just placed on waivers last week. Florida could have picked him up for nothing at that point. More details as they become available.
