Earlier today, it was announced that Jose Iglesias would be out on paternity leave, as he and his wife welcome a new baby.

We’d like to congratulate the proud dad on his new baby!

Iggy posted a picture to his Instagram this afternoon and it looks like the little slugger has a pair of lungs.

The Detroit Tigers are expected miss their starting shortstop for three games while he’s out on leave in Miami with his family. Iglesias flew out after Tuesday’s 13-2 win over the Kansas City Royals, in which he hit his sixth home run of the season. The victory ended the team’s five-game losing streak and the lineup combined for a total of six home runs.

On the downside, starter Anibal Sanchez left the game in the first inning having faced just one batter and throwing just five pitches. This comes in the right-hander’s first start back after being on the 10-day disabled list.

This season Iggy is hitting .268/.302/.388 with a 2.2 WAR. He’s reached a career high runs batted in with 52, and has a .689 OPS. On top of his offensive numbers, Iglesias has continued to impress with his defense. In 115 games, the Tigers shortstop has nine defensive runs saved.

Last time the team was without Iglesias, while he was on the bereavement list, the club brought Jeimer Candelario up for the first time.
