Daniel Norris pitched six fantastic innings, giving up zero runs in as many frames for the first time in his career. It was another solid pitching performance from the starting staff. Jose Iglesias got the scoring started driving Justin Upton in on in infield single, the hit was his fifth in he last six at-bats. Miguel Cabrera shot a laser out to right field in the fifth inning for a 3-run home run, padding the lead to 4-0. Alex Avila also got into the home run mix with a 2-run, opposite field bomb in the sixth inning. The bullpen did just about all they could do to ruin Norris’ start, giving up six earned runs in three innings. However, Francisco Rodriguez eventually got former Tiger Austin Jackson to strike out and complete the victory. The silver lining is that the Tigers did in fact homer for their tenth straight game to start the season. That’s impressive.

Looking Ahead:

Tomorrow the Tigers will send ace, Justin Verlander (1-0, 1.35 ERA) to the mound facing the Cleveland Indians ace, Corey Kluber (0-1, 5.25 ERA). Though it is early, this is another crucial game against the Indians, if not solely for the mental hump the Tigers couldn’t get over last season, to really solidify this great start they are off to. Game time is set for 4:10 EST and you can catch the action on Fox Sports Detroit, FSN 1, or 97.1 The Ticket.
