Today, the Detroit Tigers acquired third baseman Wilson Betemit from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for minor leaguers Antonio Cruz and Julio Rodriguez. Betemit is a career .268 hitter with 58 HR and should be an upgrade from what the Tigers have at 3B right now. A pro to acquiring Wilson is that he is also a switch hitter and has the capability to play shortstop and second base if there was a need. His numbers so far this year are a .281 BA with 3 HR and 27 RBI.

Prior to coming to Detroit, he has spent time with the Braves, Dodgers, Yankees, White Sox, and Royals. A fun fact is that former Tigers P Kenny Rogers picked off Betemit for his record setting 92nd career pickoff while Betemit played for the Yankees in 2008. For those wondering how to pronounce his last name, the correct pronunciation is ‘Bay-tah-mee’ but it is often mispronounced by American broadcasters. It is unknown what number he will wear for the Tigers.
