MATCH REPORT – Saturday April 18th, 2015
East Side Rugby Anchormen 51 – Findlay Scars 25
On a gorgeous spring afternoon in Fraser, MI, the Anchormen hosted the Findlay Scars up from Ohio. Due to injuries suffered the prior week, Findlay came up with low numbers, but still honored the integrity of the sport by playing the match regardless. The Anchormen sent a few of their players to the Scars so that Findlay was only down one man.
The first half started like a gunshot with an Anchormen try in the swampy corner of the pitch within the first few minutes of the match. From then on, the rest of the first forty minutes were multiple try-for-try exchanges resulting in a tight halftime score of 22-15 in favor of the Anchormen
Moving on to the second half, the Anchormen found their stride on the backs of their strong forward play. All in all, the last forty minutes featured a combined seven tries – quite exciting for the fans to see.
Findlay, despite having low numbers and playing with borrowed players unfamiliar with their system and gameplay, still showed a lot of heart throughout the contest. No example shines more brightly than their fullback’s 70m try to close out the match.
Sadly, East Side’s starting 2nd row, Spencer Channell, suffered a sprained knee in the last ten minutes. We wish him a quick recovery. Findlay escaped the match injury-free.
Tries: Drew Crosby (3), Brian Pilarski, Blake DeCarlo, Mark Mantych, Evan Pugh, Anthony Kanakri, Aisake Cava
Conversions: GJ Tesar (3)
Tries: Dan Hubbard**, Three other team tries
The Anchormen reboot for another friendly match this Saturday (4/25) down in Toledo to face their B-side team at Sterling Field.
