After weeks of rumblings as to what happened surrounding Michigan State linebacker Jon Reschke and an ‘insensitive comment’ made regarding a teammate, the saga comes to a close.
Reschke and the school announced that he will be transferring out of the program.
Michigan State LB Jon Reschke says he's leaving the program due to an "insensitive and totally regrettable comment" he made about a teammate
— Dan Murphy (@DanMurphyESPN) February 24, 2017
According to an official statement made by Reschke on Friday, he and the program mutually agreed that he will finish his degree at the university before transferring and seeking to play elsewhere in 2017. The junior and former Birmingham Brother Rice product declined to offer any details pertaining to the comment itself.
Reschke was limited to just two games in 2016 after injuring his ankle in the Week 3 game against Notre Dame. It came on the heels of a breakout campaign in 2015 where he racked up 75 tackles (5th on the team) along with two sacks. Reschke was likely to be the team’s leading linebacker next season and one of the leader’s on defense overall. There was also the possibility that the program could seek to get Reschke a medial redshirt and earn him eligibility through the 2018 season.
