Hasek Back?
This little bit of news has been floating around the ethernets for a few days now, but I’ve been avoiding talking about it because I was thoroughly convinced it was a hoax. How could a guy who will turn 48 during the next season, who hasn’t played in over a year, and who lost his last starting job in the NHL four years ago possibly be contemplating a return to the NHL? Well, when it comes to … Read entire article »

Off-season shopping: Dustin Penner
Every year, once the Red Wings have been eliminated from the playoffs – and I’ve taken way more time than is necessary to stop pouting and blaming the hockey gods a totally mature amount of time to take stock of the season that was and assess Detroit’s needs going forward – I start to compile a list of wants and needs. The Red Wings needs are pretty obvious, and they haven’t been coy about what they are either. Coach Mike Babcock said that his team needs to get bigger. With that in mind, there is one player I would have on my shopping list if I were Red Wings GM Ken Holland. … Read entire article »

Predators clip Wings in 5
Red Wings 1 Predators 2 It was a game the Detroit Red Wings had to have. They just didn’t have it. The Wings never seemed to get untracked against a Predators team that boasts the NHL’s best defense tandem and one of the best goaltenders on the planet. Watching this series unfold over the course of the last nine days, it was clear that the Wings were in over their heads. Nashville opened the scoring 6:59 into the series and never looked back. That goal came off the stick of Paul Gaustad. Okay, technically it came off the skate of Brad Stuart, but let’s not be picky here. Gaustad, who was acquired to do exactly what he did in this series: win face-offs. Gaustad was a sparkling 55.2% from the dot, including several key late game … Read entire article »

Talking with: Brendan Smith (plus a guest appearance by Logan Pyett)
The Grand Rapids Griffins blew a 5-3 third period lead in their final home game of the season tonight. Adding insult to injury, the loss eliminated them from playoff contention. Despite the disappointing result, our prospects were plenty classy in defeat and were very generous with their time. … Read entire article »
