Solving the Cap Crisis

Depending on how close you follow the sport of hockey, you may or may not know that the current Collective Bargaining Agreement under which the National Hockey League operates is set to expire in approximately a year’s time. If a new CBA has not been agreed to by that time, then play will continue under the current one until a new agreement has been reached. While we don’t necessarily have the threat of a lockout looming over the next season, there will still be plenty of points of contention up for debate before the NHL and the NHLPA will come to an agreement. The biggest sticking point will be the rash long-term, front-loaded contracts that circumvent the intention of the salary cap. The current system is not working, so it is … Read entire article »

Draft Day Forecast

The day is finally upon us… If you’re a frequent reader of this blog, you should know by now how excited I am for the draft to get underway at 7pm EST tonight. The Wings hold the 24th pick in the draft, and every eligible player in the room holds the hope of hearing their name called at some point tonight. A lifetime of hard work, sacrifice and dedication has built them up to this point, where they are nearly ready to begin their journey as professional hockey players. Despite this, there are still a good number of impact players set to make waves this summer, so with that said, here are my top 5, in no particular order, players who could be on the move this summer. Today’s version will cover only unrestricted free … Read entire article »

Ducks, Bolts Swap Backup Tenders

For the second time this trade season, we’ve had two teams swap goalies. This time, though, it is two teams who are in playoff contention, and they are swapping their backup netminders and first-string face-off charters. … Read entire article »

Stars, Penguins Swap Young Talent

At this rate, next Monday is going to be pretty uneventful. With a full week to go still until the trade deadline, there have been nearly 20 trades in the last few weeks. Some times may have finished their buying and selling, but some still have some pieces they’d like to acquire or jettison. With that being said, the Pittsburgh Penguins made a big move, finally adding a top-flight winger for Crosby to play with…if he’s ever able to return from his concussion. … Read entire article »
