Some Preseason Thoughts

I was in attendance last night for the Wings preseason home opener, which aside from the highlights NHL.com makes available, seems to be the only way to catch a preseason game right now. In lieu of a full on game recap, I thought I would offer some pluses and minuses from the game. I asked before the game if there was anyone in particular that the fans wanted to know a little more about, so let’s start … Read entire article »

This is the second installment of a three part series where I will look at the three segments of the Wings roster, and what moves they might make in the off-season to shape their lineup. Big Red Machine Gathering Steam

The Wings stormed out to a two goal lead and never looked back, winning their second straight and dispatching the visiting Minnesota Wild. Though it lacked the same passion and intensity of yesterday’s game against a Nashville squad that is quickly climbing the ranks among the Red Wings top rivals, it was a similar gritty effort that got the job done for the Wings. Roster Decisions On the Horizon for Ken Holland – Defense

This season, the Wings were forced into an uncomfortable situation with two of their young prospects. Mattias Ritola and Jakub Kindl were both out of minor league options, meaning that in order to be returned to the AHL, they had to clear waivers. Neither was necessarily kicking the door down to be brought up to the big leagues, but they were given a shot to win a job in training camp in September since it was their last chance to make it. … Read entire article »

What to do with all these healthy bodies?

Very soon, the Red Wings will have to deal with a problem they’ve barely had to think about for two full seasons. When Brad Stuart, Valtteri Filppula and Mike Modano all return sometime this month (hopefully) the Red Wings will have…*gasp* too many healthy players! … Read entire article »
