Miller Time Takes 2!

Drew Miller became the third Wing to reup in less than 24 hours, joining Jonathan Ericsson and Patrick Eaves with new deals. Miller’s career arc has followed a similar path as Eaves. Both went the college hockey route, with Eaves playing for Boston College and Miller for Michigan State. Neither could latch on with their first couple teams, but were offered a shot at redemption with the Wings in 2009. While Eaves was signed after being waived and bought out by Boston, Miller was a waiver claim from the Tampa Bay Lightning. He responded with the two best years of his career while wearing the Winged Wheel. His deal is for 2 years, with a cap hit of $825k. … Read entire article »

That third period of hockey was one for the memory bank. With their season on the line, the Red Wings threw everything they had at the Sharks and came from behind in improbable fashion to send the series back to Motown for Game 6. … Read entire article »

Zetterberg Good to Go; Who Comes Out?

More good news for Red Wings fans! On Wednesday night, they wrapped up their four game sweep of the 6th seeded Phoenix Coyotes, a series they completed without the services of their leading scorer Henrik Zetterberg. Today, word came down that Zetterberg will miss no more time with his left knee injury. While it still remains to be seen who the Wings will play in Round 2, and when that round will start, the Wings can take comfort in knowing that they’ll have #40 back on the ice. … Read entire article »

The start time may have been more than three hours later than we are used to, but the story was much of the same. Roster Decisions on the Horizon – Forwards

The other day, I talked about how Ken Holland had some decisions to make regarding some of his prospects and their upcoming waiver eligibility. I determined that of the two defensemen who will be losing their waiver exempt status, Logan Pyett and Sergei Kolosov, that Pyett was the more likely of the two to be on the Wings opening day roster for 2011-2012. Now, let’s look at the forwards who are in the same boat. … Read entire article »

Full Team Effort Leads to Wings Win

General Manager Ken Holland chose to stand pat at today’s trade deadline, and let 3 p.m. pass without making a single move. His reasoning was that, when healthy, this team is already a Stanley Cup contender, and has plenty of depth in their 23 skaters in Detroit as well as those available to them in Grand Rapids. Tonight, the team he assembled showed that he was right. … Read entire article »
