Wings Ruin Banner Night for Bitter Rival
The rivalry between the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings that spanned the better part of a decade was one of the most ferocious in the history of professional sports. The climax was a night that has taken on a life of it’s own, a game at Joe Louis Arena on March 26, 1997 that has been dubbed “Fight Night at the Joe”. The rivalry was so great because both teams were at the very … Read entire article »

What are you looking forward to from the ’11-12 Red Wings? And a bit of self-promotion…
Let me start by saying that I hate the summer. Completely, utterly, entirely loathe the stretch of months from the time hockey season ends until, mercifully, the puck drops on the pre-season some time in September. The last few years have been especially difficult with the “early” exits the Wings have made (oh my god we are spoiled as Wings fans). Seeing as it’s been something like 10 days since I’ve updated this thing, and people … Read entire article »

Solving the Cap Crisis
Depending on how close you follow the sport of hockey, you may or may not know that the current Collective Bargaining Agreement under which the National Hockey League operates is set to expire in approximately a year’s time. If a new CBA has not been agreed to by that time, then play will continue under the current one until a new agreement has been reached. While we don’t necessarily have the threat of a lockout looming over the next season, there will still be plenty of points of contention up for debate before the NHL and the NHLPA will come to an agreement. The biggest sticking point will be the rash long-term, front-loaded contracts that circumvent the intention of the salary cap. The current system is not working, so it is … Read entire article »

Incredible Third Period Forces Game 6
That third period of hockey was one for the memory bank. With their season on the line, the Red Wings threw everything they had at the Sharks and came from behind in improbable fashion to send the series back to Motown for Game 6. … Read entire article »

Round 1 Wrap-Up…or Should That be Sweep up?
The Red Wings became the first team to punch their ticket to the second round last night when their 6-3 win over the Coyotes completed a round one sweep. The series played out almost perfectly for the Wings, with very little to complain about if you’re a fan of the team. After the break, we’ll take a look at how the Red Wings dispatched the Coyotes and look ahead to who they might be facing in Round 2. … Read entire article »

Wings Dominate Early, Hold On Late for 2-0 Series Lead
What looked like a walk in the park turned into a nail biter, but the Wings held on for victory to take a well-earned 2-0 lead in the series. Phoenix, who looked over-matched for the first two periods, got themselves back into the game with an opportunistic power play, aided by some friendly calls by the men in stripes. … Read entire article »

Wings Draw First Blood
The Wings used a four goal outburst to pace themselves to victory over the visiting Coyotes to open up the 2011 playoffs. The big guns came to play, with leading scorer Henrik Zetterberg on the shelf. They also got a strong effort from the energy players in a convincing win. … Read entire article »

Detroit Red Wings 2010-2011 3 Stars!
I thought after last season, there was no way we would ever have a roller coaster run like that ever again. Though the Wings were never in danger of missing the playoffs this year like they were last year, the injuries they had to overcome may have been even more substantial than last year. That’s what makes the Wings 3rd place finish in the Western Conference that much more special. After the jump, I’ll show you how everyone who played a game for the Wings this year finished in my season long tally of three star selections, and who the Wings top 3 players were this year! … Read entire article »
