Wings to Add Top 6 Forward? Jagr in the Mix
When Brian Rafalski announced his retirement in late May, it threw a gigantic wrench into what otherwise would have been a fairly quite offseason for the Detroit Red Wings. They were planning on returning essentially the same forward corps, with possibly the retirements of Mike Modano and Kris Draper creating room for Cory Emmerton and Jan Mursak. On defense, the only real question was whether or not Nick Lidstrom would be returning or not. With Rafalski’s unexpected departure from the lineup, there is now a $6M hole for the Wings to fill. General Manager Ken Holland said that he will explore the trade market, as well as free agency, to find Rafalski’s replacement. Coach Mike Babcock has also asked that Holland add a top 6 forward to his group up … Read entire article »

Red Wings Off-season Preview: Forwards
Quickly, name what’s wrong with the Red Wings forwards! They are too old right? Not physical enough? Too slow? Whether or not you believe that or not, that is the general belief about the Red Wings forwards and style of play in general. My goal is to change those stereotypes by identifying some free agents the Wings should target this summer. … Read entire article »

Zetterberg Good to Go; Who Comes Out?
More good news for Red Wings fans! On Wednesday night, they wrapped up their four game sweep of the 6th seeded Phoenix Coyotes, a series they completed without the services of their leading scorer Henrik Zetterberg. Today, word came down that Zetterberg will miss no more time with his left knee injury. While it still remains to be seen who the Wings will play in Round 2, and when that round will start, the Wings can take comfort in knowing that they’ll have #40 back on the ice. … Read entire article »

Wings Can’t Solve Rinne
Well, so much for that whole “what players do we make healthy scratches” issue. Tonight, the Red Wings played one man under the limit of 18 skaters, because Jiri Hudler (flu), Pavel Datsyuk (lower body), and Johan Franzen (undisclosed) were all unavailable. They could have gone with 7 defensemen to offset the loss up front, but Ruslan Salei is still in California with his family after the birth of he and his wife’s third child. … Read entire article »

Are Wings Fans Spoiled?
This is an article I have thought about writing for a while, but now seems like the best time to do it. With the Wings on a three game losing streak, the critics have started to come out of the woodwork to voice their displeasure with the current direction of the team. So, the question is simple…are Wings fans spoiled? … Read entire article »

Full Team Effort Leads to Wings Win
General Manager Ken Holland chose to stand pat at today’s trade deadline, and let 3 p.m. pass without making a single move. His reasoning was that, when healthy, this team is already a Stanley Cup contender, and has plenty of depth in their 23 skaters in Detroit as well as those available to them in Grand Rapids. Tonight, the team he assembled showed that he was right. … Read entire article »

Late Rally Gives Wings SO Win
The Buffalo Sabres were 58 seconds from winning in regulation, but ended up dropping the decision in the skills competition after over time solved nothing. With them chasing the Hurricanes for 8th place in the Eastern Conference, acquiring any point that can be had is vital. Only time will tell if letting the second point slip away against Detroit last night will come back to bite them. … Read entire article »
