Miller Time Takes 2!

Drew Miller became the third Wing to reup in less than 24 hours, joining Jonathan Ericsson and Patrick Eaves with new deals. Miller’s career arc has followed a similar path as Eaves. Both went the college hockey route, with Eaves playing for Boston College and Miller for Michigan State. Neither could latch on with their first couple teams, but were offered a shot at redemption with the Wings in 2009. While Eaves was signed after being waived and bought out by Boston, Miller was a waiver claim from the Tampa Bay Lightning. He responded with the two best years of his career while wearing the Winged Wheel. His deal is for 2 years, with a cap hit of $825k. … Read entire article »

Hawks Take First of Three

There are very few secrets between the Red Wings and Blackhawks. They play each other 6 times a year. They met in the Conference Finals in 2008. Both teams feature players that formerly played for the other side. They will only become more familiar with each other over the next couple of weeks. The Wings wrap up their season with a home and home against Chicago on April 8th and 10th, and as it stands right now would be facing them in the Western Conference Quarterfinals. … Read entire article »

Crucial 2 Points Won, $14k Raised for Charity

There was something a little sweeter about this one. When Pavel Datsyuk showed off a little bit of his classic dangle dangle, and then went snipe snipe for good measure, and the crowd roared in approval of the Red Wings first victory in March…there was something a little magical about it. Join me after the jump and I’ll explain a little of the magic to you… … Read entire article »

Roster Decisions On the Horizon for Ken Holland – Defense

This season, the Wings were forced into an uncomfortable situation with two of their young prospects. Mattias Ritola and Jakub Kindl were both out of minor league options, meaning that in order to be returned to the AHL, they had to clear waivers. Neither was necessarily kicking the door down to be brought up to the big leagues, but they were given a shot to win a job in training camp in September since it was their last chance to make it. … Read entire article »
