Wings Have Questions Heading Into Season
It has been a long four months since the Boston Bruins hoisted Lord Stanley’s mug that June night in Vancouver. Now, we are mere hours from puck drop on another NHL season, a fresh slate for all 30 teams with aspirations of glory. The Red Wings have been yearly favourites to win it all since the early 90s, and that hasn’t change this season. Sure, some of the familiar faces – Draper, Rafalski, Osgood – may be … Read entire article »

Some Preseason Thoughts
I was in attendance last night for the Wings preseason home opener, which aside from the highlights NHL.com makes available, seems to be the only way to catch a preseason game right now. In lieu of a full on game recap, I thought I would offer some pluses and minuses from the game. I asked before the game if there was anyone in particular that the fans wanted to know a little more about, so let’s start … Read entire article »

Red Wings Off-season Preview: Defense
This is the second installment of a three part series where I will look at the three segments of the Wings roster, and what moves they might make in the off-season to shape their lineup. On Saturday, I walked you through the potential candidates to become Jimmy Howard’s understudy. Today, the defense is under the microscope. … Read entire article »

Incredible Third Period Forces Game 6
That third period of hockey was one for the memory bank. With their season on the line, the Red Wings threw everything they had at the Sharks and came from behind in improbable fashion to send the series back to Motown for Game 6. … Read entire article »

Same Story, Different Location
The start time may have been more than three hours later than we are used to, but the story was much of the same. The Wings stormed out to a three goal lead that never was in serious doubt, pushing the Coyotes to the brink of elimination and relocation. Follow along after the jump for the breakdown. … Read entire article »

Plenty to Play for in Season’s Final Week
The Wings may have wrapped up a playoff spot with a huge overtime victory against the Predators on Saturday. And yes, they may have clinched the Central division title for the 9th time in 10 years the next day with a 4-2 win over Minnesota. And while they may be locked into either the second or third seed in the Western Conference, they still have plenty to play for in the last week of the 2010-2011 NHL regular season. … Read entire article »

Huge Win for Red Wings Could Set the Tone
The last time the Red Wings took the ice, they were shellacked by a team that will be drafting in the first ten picks of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft to the tune of 10-3. Tonight, they found themselves down 3-0 to a team they had lost four straight to, and hadn’t beaten since October. Nothing was going right for them. They could have packed it in and started thinking ahead to tomorrow’s match-up with the Wild. But boy am I glad they didn’t! … Read entire article »

Wings Can’t Solve Rinne
Well, so much for that whole “what players do we make healthy scratches” issue. Tonight, the Red Wings played one man under the limit of 18 skaters, because Jiri Hudler (flu), Pavel Datsyuk (lower body), and Johan Franzen (undisclosed) were all unavailable. They could have gone with 7 defensemen to offset the loss up front, but Ruslan Salei is still in California with his family after the birth of he and his wife’s third child. … Read entire article »
