Future Bright for Red Wings
This ain’t your grandfather’s NHL. Gone are the days where you can simply buy your team in the off-season by dangling the biggest carrot in front of the most attractive free agent. These days, the NHL Entry Draft is where it’s at. The most successful teams are the those that supplement a continuous, healthy stream of prospects with a smattering of free agent and trade acquisitions. That’s how you win in the NHL these days. Wings (Finally) Sign Fabian Brunnstrom
The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet is reporting that the Red Wings have signed winger Fabian Brunnstrom to a professional tryout contract. This news comes to us from our friends at The Production Line, via a Puck Daddy tweet (credit where it’s due, of course). You should recall that the Wings were courting the Swedish forward back in early 2008 to try to add some offensive depth to the team that ultimately went on to defeat the Pittsburgh … Read entire article »

Red Wings Draft Picks: Marek Tvrdon
With their 5th pick of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, the Red Wings took their fifth player from the CHL. Tvrdon plays for the Vancouver Giants of the WHL, giving the Red Wings representatives from all three leagues (Ryan Sproul and Alan Quine of the OHL, Tomas Jurco and Xavier Ouellet of the QMJHL). Tvrdon, like Jurco is a native of Slovakia, and along with 2009 draftee Tomas Tatar gives them a very talented trio of Slovaks. … Read entire article »

Tomas Jurco, of the Memorial Cup winning Saint John Seadogs. Vladislav Namestnikov, the talented Russian with all those Red Wings connections. All of the above are supremely talented forwards, and the Red Wings would be thrilled to have any of them. However, if I had to wager a … Read entire article »

Are Wings Fans Spoiled?
This is an article I have thought about writing for a while, but now seems like the best time to do it. With the Wings on a three game losing streak, the critics have started to come out of the woodwork to voice their displeasure with the current direction of the team. So, the question is simple…are Wings fans spoiled? … Read entire article »
