Tigers Finally End Losing Streak, Defeat the Yankees 4-2
Finally…after about a week of agonizing losses, close comebacks, poor bullpen pitching, and talks of change around the organization, the Tigers broke through and ended their season-long losing streak at 7 games. Their 4-2 win at Comerica Park came against one of the leagues top teams in the New York Yankees. Brad Penny got his second win of the year to move to 2-3 on the year, while C.C. Sabathia took the loss for New York. Jose Valverde came in and closed the door in the 9th for his sixth save for Detroit. The first star of this game has to go to 2B Scott Sizemore. The day after being called up from the minors, Sizemore was 3-4 with a double, an RBI, and assisted on the double play which ended the game. Magglio Ordonez was 2-4 with an RBI which will hopefully help to break him out of his season-long slump. For the Yankees, Jorge Posada finished 2-4 and Mark Teixeira hit his 8th HR of the season off Daniel Schlereth.
Detroit looks to keep the momentum from this victory going tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 7:05p at Comerica Park against the same Yankees team. Remember, this game will be televised by Fox Sports Detroit Plus due to the Detroit Red Wings – San Jose Sharks playoff game which will air on Fox Sports Detroit.
Go Tigers!
