On Monday, Miguel Cabrera hit a home run in the ninth inning, helping propel Venezuela to a 4-3 victory over Italy in the 1st Round of the World Baseball Classic.
With Venezuela trailing 2-1 in the top of the ninth-inning, Cabrera led off and did not waste any time as he absolutely destroyed the first pitch he saw, sending it into the right-center field seats to tie things up.
Venezuela went on to score two more runs in the inning and they held on for the win after Italy was only able to score one in the bottom of the ninth.
Cabrera and his teammates now move on to the Second Round of the WBC where they will be in Pool F along with the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and the United States.
If you have not been paying attention to the World Baseball Classic, you have been missing out. Not only have there been some very good games early on, but there has been a playoff-type atmosphere during many of the matchups.
