97.1 The Ticket's Mike Valenti continues to be outspoken in his view of the Detroit sports landscape, and Tuesday afternoon's edition of The Valenti Show was no different.
It was reported that Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores wants Stan Van Gundy to return next season despite his myriad of bad decisions both in the front office and on the court. Valenti wasted no time taking them to task, saying that the fans that do decide to attend home games at Little Caesars Arena are disrespected by this latest development in the rudderless franchise.
“This is not right. And while Tom Gores has not done anything illegal, he is an embarrassment to the league, to the shield if you will. To tee-shirt time, to almost falling on the court, to his embarrassing public speeches, to this. This is a disgrace. This shows no acumen. Step in and get this guy out of here, but there's no way it will happen…..this is awful. Awful.”
Do you agree with Valenti's assessment that the fans in Detroit are being disrespected by the Pistons? They haven't won a playoff game in 10 years, have missed the playoffs in three out of Stan Van Gundy's four years in his dual role as head coach and president, and clearly lack direction. With the same personnel in place, it doesn't look like the Pistons will be venturing out of the woods any time soon.
