Lions hoping for big things from Kenny Golladay in 2018

A hamstring injury cut short what was an otherwise productive rookie season for Detroit Lions receiver Kenny Golladay. Fans were able to see glimpses of what they hope is a long and productive career when he was healthy, including strong performances in Detroit’s season opener and finale. He averaged 17.0 yards per catch and recorded six receptions of more than 30 yards.

He caught 28 passes for 477 yards and three scores in 11 games, five of which he started. He’ll be alongside returning receivers Golden Tate and Marvin Jones Jr., who had 1,003 and 1,101 receiving yards respectively.

Following last week’s Miller Lite draft party, offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter talked about Golladay’s potential and his hopes for this upcoming season under new head coach Matt Patricia.

“I’m really excited (for Kenny),” Cooter said last week at the team’s Miller Lite draft party. “Going from your first year to your second year in this league you can really make some strides. Kenny’s got the ability to do some special things.

“We’ve got to get him better and he knows that. He’s got to get better. But he’s working hard and working in the right direction, and we look forward to him being a big part of our offense next year.”

Detroit didn’t take any receivers during their 2018 Draft, so they’ll be hoping for regular contributions from Golladay, especially with this being a contact year for Golden Tate.

BONUS CONTENT: MATT PATRICIA EARNED RESPECT FROM AFC OPPONENTS

There’s a new aura of anticipation in the Motor City with former New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia as the new head coach of the Detroit Lions. Already well known throughout the NFL, he joins forces with another former Patriots employee – Bob Quinn – to hopefully bring an end to the long suffering of Lions fans.

Of course, his many former AFC opponents are well aware of what he can bring to the Lions, and the Miami Dolphins’ Adam Gase, Buffalo Bills’ Sean McDermott and the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Doug Marrone spoke at length of how fortunate Detroit was to land the former DC.
