15 Detroit Lions ‘bubble’ players who still have work to do

We are just 20 days away from the Detroit Lions Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles and when it comes to the Lions’ 53-man roster, there are still plenty of battles to be settled.

With only one preseason game remaining, the players listed below absolutely must show out if they want to make the final cut.

Here are 15 ‘bubble’ players who have some work to do if they want to make the Detroit Lions’ 53-man roster out of training camp.

15 Detroit Lions ‘bubble’ players who still have work to do

QBs Tim Boyle and David Blough

When you look at the contract situations, Tim Boyle seems like the logical pick to win the No. 2 job behind Jared Goff. That being said, Boyle has not exactly proven that giving him the No. 2 spot is a no-brainer and if David Blough finishes camp strong, he could get the nod.

WRs Trinity Benson and Tom Kennedy

Tom Kennedy just refuses to go away and if he continues to ball out, he may just force his way onto the Lions’ initial 53-man roster. That being said, I still give Trinity Benson the upper hand in this battle as he is more versatile and though he is not great on special teams, he provides more value than Kennedy.

RBs Godwin Igwebuike and Jermar Jefferson

I thought about adding Justin Jefferson to this list after his solid game against the Colts but I have a feeling that the Lions’ final RB spot will go to Godwin Igwebuike or Jermar Jefferson. As we speak, I prefer Igwebuike.

OGs Tommy Kraemer and Logan Stenberg

I have a feeling that the Lions’ final OG spot will be given to either Tommy Kraemer or Logan Stenberg. Though neither of these players is going to be a key to the Lions’ success, Kraemer seems like the more consistent player.

DL John Cominsky, Isaiah Buggs, and Jashon Cornell

Two of the three players listed above will likely make the final 53-man roster but to be completely honest, this one is stumping me right now. Cominsky has been really good in camp and of the three, I think he is the safest bet to make the team. Right now, I also give the nod to Buggs over Cornell but things could still change.

LBs Josh Woods and Jarrad Davis

Honestly, when the final cuts are made, I think both Josh Woods and Jarrad Davis are going to be on the outside looking in but it’s not too late for them to make a final push. Both have lots of work to do.

Ks Austin Seibert and Riley Patterson

As it stands, Austin Seibert is the favorite to be the Lions kicker to start the 2022 season but the fact that both are still around in camp means the competition is not yet over. That being said, the Lions will be making some more cuts by Tuesday and Patterson could be shown the door.
