Lions’ Kerryon Johnson gives update on injured ankle

The Detroit Lions took care of business this afternoon against division rival Green Bay, winning by a 31-23 final score. But for a bit, Lions fans everywhere were holding their breath when running back Kerryon Johnson left the game late with a right ankle injury.

Of course, Johnson ended a long Lions streak of not having a 100 yard running back in their Week 3 victory over New England, their first such in five years.

He was pushed out of bounds by Green Bay cornerback Tramon Williams shortly into the 4th quarter. He was then tended to on the trainer’s table while the Lions scored with 12:55 left following a Matthew Stafford five yard completion to Kenny Golladay.

Afterwards, Johnson said that he didn’t think the injury was severe, and that if called upon, he would have been available to re-enter the game.

“Yeah, I think I could have,” Johnson said. “If I can walk, I can run. That’s just the mindset I’ve always I’ve always tried to play with. If I needed to, I think I could have.”

Thankfully for him and the Lions, his services weren’t immediately required as Detroit was able to hold off the Packers from making a comeback.

“Yeah, I had to put my trust even more in my teammates,” he said. “It’s hard for me to do, me being a competitor, but they got it done. I’m happy.”

BONUS CONTENT: LIONS’ GESTURE TO CHRIS SPIELMAN HAS MAJOR GAFFE

Chris Spielman is without a doubt one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) linebackers in Detroit Lions history.

As many of you probably recall, Spielman’s wife, Stefanie, lost her battle with cancer back in 2009.

On Sunday, the Lions presented a $10,000 check to Spielman for the “Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research” during halftime of the game between the Lions and the Green Bay Packers.
