Ndamukong Suh on Stafford hit: “It’s been a long time coming”

Plenty was made of Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle and former Detroit Lion Ndamukong Suh making his return to Detroit for the first time as a member of the opposition. Fans were also anxious to see how he’d perform against quarterback Matthew Stafford.

They soon got their answer, though the incident everyone will be talking about happened when the game’s outcome was already well decided.

With time ticking away in the Rams’ 30-16 victory, Suh shoved Stafford to the ground. Stafford was slammed to his stomach and then helped up by his teammates, while Suh earned himself roughing the passer penalty. To nobody’s surprise, a chorus of boos rained down at Ford Field from the fans that remained behind. And you knew that Suh definitely would take notice.

“I don’t think those were boos,” he said with a smirk afterwards.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Suh continued.

Of course, fans used to chant “Suh” whenever the hard-nosed defensive tackle made a big play. But those days are now well in the past.

Suh finished the game with six solo tackles and a quarterback hit, which Stafford didn’t think was dirty.

Suh’s return to Detroit was much publicized, especially after Suh stated publicly that Jared Goff and Jay Cutler were the best two quarterbacks he’d ever played with – a message that many interpreted as a shot at Stafford, who simply shrugged off his former teammate’s comment as “classic Suh“.

A year after drafting Stafford number one overall, the Lions drafted Suh number two overall in 2010. However, it seemed that Suh couldn’t leave Detroit fast enough. In March of 2015, he signed a massive deal with the Miami Dolphins, but was cut by the team after three years. He inked a one-year deal with the Rams this offseason.

Matthew Stafford responds to Suh comments

This coming Sunday at Ford Field, Matthew Stafford, and the Detroit Lions will square off against Ndamukong Suh and the Los Angeles Rams.

On Wednesday, Suh was asked about some comments he made about who has been his favorite quarterback to play with so far in his career and whether or not those comments were simply a compliment to Jared Goff or a message the other quarterbacks he has played with, including Stafford.
