Losing a preseason game is one thing but losing players to injury during a preseason is another.
That’s exactly what happened to the Detroit Lions on Thursday night when they hosted the New England Patriots at Ford Field.

Not only did the Lions lose the game 31-3 but they also lost a few players to injury in the process.
Two of those injuries (to Tom Savage and Tyrell Crosby) were brain injuries.

Two Lions suffered brain injuries Thursday, and both have histories with concussions.
Backup quarterback Tom Savage was taken to the locker room and did not return after he hit his head hard on the Ford Field turf in the first quarter, and swing tackle Tyrell Crosby was placed in concussion protocol after he played most of the game at left tackle.
Savage finished the 2017 season on injured reserve after he suffered a brain injury in a Week 14 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. In that instance, he banged his head on the turf after a sack – just as he did Thursday – but returned temporarily to the game.
Crosby slid to the fifth round of the 2018 draft due to what then-NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said were concussion concerns. Mayock is now the Oakland Raiders general manager.
Patricia said Savage and wide receiver Jermaine Kearse were still being evaluated for their injuries after the game.
