In 2015, it was the Oklahoma Sooners surviving the late-season gauntlet that is the regular season schedule of the Big 12. The Sooners, led by head coach Bob Stoops and senior transfer quarterback Baker Mayfield, earned one a highly-coveted spot in the College Football Playoff before falling short in the National Semifinals to the Clemson Tigers.
There has been a plethora of storylines in the league this off-season. From the back-and-forth decision of the walk-on transfer rule within the conference, to the firing of then Baylor Bears head coach Art Briles during investigations around the football program, and even talks of potentially expanding down the road with the return of a conference championship game coming in 2017.
Regarding the action ON the field, it should be another wild and exciting season in the Big 12. Will the Sooners repeat and find their way back into the Top 4 of college football? Or will there be a new face claiming the top spot? In a conference where there are no real ‘off’ weeks on the schedule, anything can happen.
Let’s dive into the season preview for the Big 12.
