Once the new Detroit Lions general manager is hired, he will have some decisions to make regarding what to do with their impending free agents. The Lions have a total of 24 players who will hit the market, including a handful of starters.
The new salary cap is expected to inflate to at least $150 million, which would give the Lions approximately $23 million in available cap space.

January 4, 2016: Teams are now permitted to extend or renegotiate the 2013 NFL draft rookie contracts. (Ziggy Ansah, Darius Slay, Larry Warford, Devin Taylor, Theo Riddick, Sam Martin)
February 22, 2016: Teams are now allowed to apply the Franchise or Transition Player Tags
March 7, 2016: Starting at noon EST, teams are now permitted to communicate and talk contract negotiations with the authorized agents of the impending unrestricted free agents. A contract cannot be finalized or executed with a new organization officially until March 15 at 4:00 p.m. EST.
March 15, 2016: At 4:00 p.m. EST, the 2016 league year formally begins and the free agency period commences. Players are now permitted to sign with a new club.
