2019 Detroit Lions ‘post scrimmage’ 53-man roster projection

[tps_header]

Training camp is well underway and on Friday night, the Detroit Lions held a scrimmage at a fan appreciation event at Ford Field. Though there were less than 20,000 fans in attendance, those who showed up were able to watch the defense beat the offense 30-20 thanks to a couple of late interceptions.

Now that we have an scrimmage in the books, I thought it would be fun to reveal my latest 53-man  roster projection for the Lions.

So, without further ado, here is what I believe the 53-man roster would look like if the season started today.

[tps_title]Quarterbacks (2)[tps_title]

Matthew Stafford

Tom Savage

Notes: Stafford is obviously the man here, but I believe Savage is well on his way to winning the backup job.

Running Backs/Full Backs (5)

Kerryon Johnson

C.J. Anderson

Zach Zenner

Ty Johnson

Nick Bawden (FB)

Notes: With Theo Riddick being traded, I have added Ty Johnson to this roster. Johnson has proven that he has the speed, vision, and running ability to play in this league.

Wide Receivers (5)

Kenny Golladay

Marvin Jones

Danny Amendola

Travis Fulgham

Jermaine Kearse

Notes: I think the Lions keep 5 wide receivers but the question is, who is the final receiver to make the group? Fulgham is a lock for me at this point and though I LOVE Brandon Powell, I think the veteran Jermaine Kearse may end up getting the nod. But don’t count Powell out!

Tight Ends (4)

T.J. Hockenson

Jesse James

Isaac Nauta

Logan Thomas

Notes: In my last roster projection piece, I had the Lions keeping three tight ends. That being said, Logan Thomas has proven that he can be a nice weapon for Matthew Stafford and I think he makes the team.

Offensive Line (9)

http://gty.im/1158335769

Taylor Decker

Graham Glasgow

Frank Ragnow

Kenny Wiggins

Rick Wagner

Oday Aboushi

Tyrell Crosby

Joe Dahl

Ryan Pope

Notes: I was really hoping that either Ryan Pope or Beau Benzschawel would step up and snag one of these spots and for now, I think Pope is the guy.
