Winless NY Jets coach Adam Gase sucker punches Detroit Lions

It's safe to say that when your next matchup is against a team that's outscored their opponents by a 76-3 margin the first two weeks, you're going to be the major underdog. Oh, and the fact that a third-string quarterback is now in certainly doesn't help.

Such is the case for the New York Jets ahead of this weekend's tilt with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, who look as dangerous as ever so far this NFL season.

The Jets, led by head coach and former Detroit Lions assistant coach Adam Gase, was asked if he'd ever been that big an underdog before, and he took a not so subtle jab at his former team.

Gase, an Ypsilanti native and Michigan State University grad, first worked with the Lions as a scouting assistant, then was brought onto the coaching staff by then head coach Steve Mariucci. He was the team's offensive assistant and then the offensive quality coach before taking over as quarterback coach.

But here's the kicker – the Lions were never 23-point underdogs during Gase's years in the Motor City.
