Heading into the 2022 season, many believed the Detroit Lions had a chance to go from worst to first in the NFC North. As we now know, the chances of that happening are now slim to none as they are off to a 1-6 start, which puts them in last place in the entire NFL. With the Lions struggling so far this season, there has been plenty of speculation as to whether or not the Lions will make a trade or two before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.
Which Detroit Lions players could be traded by Tuesday?
NFL teams will have until 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday to make a trade and here are three players the Lions could be looking to deal.
During the offseason, I wrote about how T.J. Hockenson would sign a big contract with an NFL team, but that NFL team would not be our Detroit Lions. Back when I originally proposed that Hockenson would demand too much money for Lions GM Brad Holmes to shell out, plenty of people called me an idiot (and other things). Fast forward to the present, and more and more people agree that making him a top-paid tight end may not be the right move. In my opinion, Hockenson’s value will never be higher than it is today, and if the Lions can get a second-round pick (or something equivalent), they should make the deal.
Heading into the 2022 regular season, many believed the Detroit Lions would take a big step forward and contend for a playoff spot. One of the reasons for that belief was CB Amani Oruwariye emerging as a Pro Bowl-type player (Yep, I did predict that). That has not happened as he has been one of the worst cornerbacks in the NFL. If somebody wants to offer any pick at all, Lions GM Brad Holmes should make the deal. That being said, I cannot imagine another team giving up draft capital for Oruwariye, so the Lions are better off just holding on to him and hoping things turn around.
Michael Brockers
This one is similar to Amani Oruwariye as Michael Brockers has also been a healthy scratch because of his lack of production. Also, like Oruwariye, the Lions should jump on any offer whatsoever that is thrown their way for Brockers. Once again, I would be very surprised if another team offered even a conditional pick for a player who has not been good enough to crack the worst defense in the league.
