The Detroit Lions still have a pair of games remaining on their 2018 schedule but let’s face it, nobody really cares too much.
Though I refuse to root for my team to lose while the game is still going on, I would not be heartbroken if they dropped their final two contests to earn a higher draft pick.
That being said, it is time to start focusing on the 2019 season and there are some important decisions to be made by Lions GM Bob Quinn.
One of those decisions will be to determine which players who are still under contract will be cap casualties.
Here is a list of 3 Detroit Lions who will be cut this offseason.
T.J. Lang has had a great NFL career and he is a great teammate but his time in Detroit will soon be up. Lang has a base salary of $9 million in 2019 and that is just too much to pay for an offensive lineman who has missed too many games to injury.
Glover Quin went from being pretty damn good in 2017 to average (at best) in 2018. His base salary increased to $5.25 million next season and that would be nice savings for the Lions, especially considering that Tracy Walker will take over his job regardless in 2019.
Say what you want about giving a player time to develop but Teez Tabor has been a bust from the get-go. Quinn made a huge mistake by drafting Tabor and he has compounded that mistake by keeping him around as long as he has. I would be pretty surprised if Tabor is in the Motor City in 2019, even though he will make less than $1 million.
