On Sunday, the Detroit Lions did not make it look pretty but when all was said and done, they walked away with a 31-26 win over the New York Giants.

With the win, the Lions are back to .500 at 3-3-1 with a road matchup against the Oakland Raiders coming up.
Had the Lions lost to the Giants, they almost certainly would have looked to be sellers before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline but now it seems like adding a few parts to the puzzle is the correct move.
If the Lions truly want to compete for a playoff spot this season, they will have to trade for a few positions by Tuesday’s deadline. Those positions are running back, safety, and a pass rusher.

When it was announced that Kerryon Johnson was going to be out until at least Week 16 with a knee injury, the question was, how will he be replaced?
Well, up to this point, the Lions have chosen to keep things in-house and to just roll with the two-headed monster composing of Tra Carson and Ty Johnson.
Unfortunately, Carson and Johnson are ok as role players but they do not have what it takes to carry the Lions rushing attack, as they proved on Sunday.
Look for the Lions to trade for a running back by Tuesday’s deadline. Think Kenyan Drake or Rashaad Penny.

Last week, the Lions shocked everyone by trading Quandre Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks for a fifth-round draft pick.
With Diggs out of the picture, the hope was that safety Tracy Walker would rise to the occasion.
Well, Walker left Sunday’s game against the Giants with a knee injury, and though we do not yet know the extent of the injury or how long he will be out, it would be wise for the Lions to add some depth.
Quarterback Killer

Though there seemed to be some improvement on Sunday against the Giants, the Detroit Lions havre struggled mightily to get to the quarterback so far this season.
After signing free agent DE Trey Flowers in the offseason, the presumption was the Lions would have one of the most formidable defensive lines in the NFL but that has not been the case.
Flowers played much better against the pass on Sunday, including picking up sacks on back to back plays in the fourth quarter, but he has left much to be desired so far this season in terms of pressuring opposing quarterbacks.
This is a passing league and if the Lions do not add a pass rusher, it is going to be a long rest of the season.
