It is now Oct. 19 and Kenny Golladay has yet to sign a contract extension with the Detroit Lions. If you would have told me in June that I would eventually be tying the sentence above, I would have told you that Lions’ GM Bob Quinn had lost his mind.

Despite Golladay saying he was confident a deal would get done before the start of the season, it did not happen and many are now wondering what the holdup is.
In a piece recently published by The Athletic, Chris Burke gives three possibilities as to why Golladay and the Lions not yet agreed upon a contract extension.
From The Athletic:
In fairness, this is a contract extension just about everyone — including Golladay — expected to get done in August. Among the possible reasons it hasn’t yet: 1) Golladay’s side is asking for top-five receiver money ($19 million to $20 million per year), and the Lions won’t go that high. 2) Quinn is waiting to see where the 2021 cap settles before making another big investment. 3) Owner Sheila Ford Hamp has put the kibosh on any more long-reaching deals until this season takes on a more obvious direction.
In my opinion, there is little question about it that Golladay wants to get paid in a big way and it is very possible (actually, probable) that his camp is demanding top-five receiver money. The question is, are the Lions willing to give a wide receiver $19 or $20 million per season?

Option No. 2 is also plausible as the NFL has not yet determined what the salary cap will be for the 2021 season. If it ends up being lower than expected, it is less likely Quinn would be willing to pony up $19 or $20 million for Golladay.
As far as option No. 3 goes, I find it hard to believe that Sheila Ford Hamp is getting in the way of a contract extension, but if she is truly on the fence about whether or not Quinn will be the Lions GM beyond this season, it would at least be understandable for her to want the new GM to make the call. That being said, if the Lions wait too long, Golladay may end up deciding to test the free agency waters, where he will get paid royally.

KENNY GOLLADAY TAKES TO INSTAGRAM, HAS STERN MESSAGE FOR LIONS GM BOB QUINN
On Sunday, the Detroit Lions went into Jacksonville and destroyed the Jaguars by a score of 34-16.
A big reason why the Lions were able to easily defeat the Jaguars was the play of WR Kenny Golladay, who had 4 catches for 105 yards.
During the offseason, Golladay told reporters and friends that he was confident that he would sign a contract extension with the Lions prior to the start of the regular season. But here we stand with Week 6 in the books, and Lions’ GM Bob Quinn still has not made Golladay an offer he cannot refuse.
Following Sunday’s game, Golladay took to Instagram and he posted a message that was clearly directed towards Quinn.
