3-star Ohio DL DeAri Todd commits to Michigan State for 2017

After a largely dormant period of time on the recruiting front for the Michigan State Spartans football team, they get their second commit from the Class of 2017 in a little over a week’s span. Back on January 14, it was 4-star linebacker and Ann Arbor Pioneer product Antjuan Simmons pledging to the Spartans.

On Sunday, the received a commit from a 3-star defensive lineman and former Boston College pledge in DeAri Todd.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pounds Todd is regarded as a top-100 strong-side defensive end in the country, according to 247Sports, and is ranked No. 80 overall in the state of Ohio. Todd had made multiple visits to MSU in the past, most recently in early December. The school offered him a scholarship this past Friday, January 20 and it only takes him two days to flip his pledge to Boston College. Todd had been committed to play for the Eagles next season since mid-December.

In addition to Michigan State and Boston College, Todd was being looked at by a number of MAC programs in the geographical area with respect to his hometown of Lorain, Ohio.

For the Spartans, that ups their crop of 2017 commits to 19 total, a class that currently ranks 32nd in the country and 6th in the Big Ten. Todd is the fourth defensive lineman prospect to pledge to MSU and the seventh from the state of Ohio, where the Spartans have more pledges than any other state.

A reminder that National Signing Day is Wednesday, February 1. Of the 19 pledges for MSU, three are early enrollees.
