On the recruiting front, the Michigan State Spartans are putting an exclamation mark on the month of July. On Saturday, they received their latest pledge from the Class of 2018 in 3-star wide receiver Julian Major (Pittsburgh, PA).

Major (6-1, 185 pounds) speaks of “adversity” in his pledge tweet above. He’s lost multiple family members over his life, including two brothers he mentions in his tweet as well as his father.
He’s listed as a top-20 player in the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 100 wide receiver in the country. He’s been on the Spartans’ radar going back to early May, when he made an unofficial visit to East Lansing and the team offered him a scholarship that same day.
Major is ultimately choosing Michigan State over a number of programs to have also offered him a scholarship, including Wisconsin, Kentucky and Arkansas. He has made visits and/or attended camps hosted by a pair of big-time programs in his state, in Penn State and his hometown school Pittsburgh. Neither have yet to offer him a scholarship.
2018 CLASS COUNTER: 15
With the addition of Major, who is Michigan State’s first wide receiver prospect from the Class of 2018, the Spartans now have a total of 15 hard commits from that class. It is a crop of recruits that currently ranks 8th in the Big Ten and sits just outside the top 30 nationally.
In what has been primarily a defense-heavy group of high school prospects thus far for Michigan State, Major is just the fourth player on the offensive side of the ball. They have a pair of quarterbacks in Theo Day (4-star | Dearborn, MI | committed on 02/26/17) and Javez Alexander (2-star | Sandusky, OH | committed 06/28/17), as well as an offensive lineman in Dimitri Douglas (3-star | Saline, MI | committed 06/19/17).
MSU had just four wide receivers be a part of their 2017 class, headlined by a pair of in-state talents in Hunter Rison (Ann Arbor, MI) and Cody White (Walled Lake, MI), both of whom could be making an impact right away for the Spartans this season.
