Jim Harbaugh is staying at Michigan but the same cannot be said for Wolverines offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, who is leaving to take the same position at the University of Miami.
Harbaugh, who already has to find a new defensive coordinator after Mike Macdonald left to become the DC of the Baltimore Ravens, now has to hire a new offensive coordinator to replace Gattis.
Here are the 3 top options (in my opinion) to replace Gattis. As you will see, all three options are in-house coaches as that will keep some continuity in what was a very good offense in 2021.
Mike Hart – Michigan’s RBs Coach
Mike Hart formerly played running back for Michigan and he is now their RBs coach. Though I do believe Hart will be a head coach in the not-too-distant future, I was not a fan of him replacing Jim Harbaugh if Harbaugh went to the Vikings. That being said, he is a dynamic, smart leader who could end up calling plays for the Wolverines in 2022.
Matt Weiss – Michigan’s QBs Coach
Matt Weiss is actually my favorite to replace Josh Gattis as the Wolverines offensive coordinator. As Michigan’s QBs coach, Weiss worked very closely with Harbaugh in 2021 and it would actually be a bit of a surprise to me if he is not calling plays in 2022.
Sherrone Moore – Michigan’s OL Coach
The main reason why Michigan’s offense was so good in 2021 was because of the emergence of their offensive line, which was coached by Sherrone Moore. Moore will eventually move up the ranks in the profession but he is so valuable a coach that it is ideal for him to keep working with the offensive line.
Nation, who do you think will be the next offensive coordinator of the Michigan Wolverines?
I hope Michigan hires the best candidate and or outside the program we need experience definitely proven success !!
