The second Steve Yzerman era isn’t off to the greatest of starts.
It can be argued that most people didn’t assume the team would automatically turn around upon his return, but could also be argued that most didn’t expect the product on the ice to be this wretched.
Following Monday night’s 4-1 loss to the New York Islanders, the Red Wings have now lost 10 in a row, and sit at a horrid 7-20-3 record – good for dead last in the NHL.
For reference, the 17 points they’ve earned through 30 games are the least in team history, and the second fewest in the NHL in the past two decades. What’s worse, their -56 goal differential is the second worst in team history, and the worst in the NHL over the past two decades.
Talk about rough!
Yzerman did preach patience at his introductory press conference back in April, but were the fans prepared for this level of terrible?
