Fans of the Detroit Tigers are pining for the days when their baseball team was “must-see” TV and could be expected to compete every season.
If their prospect pool is any indication, we should be able to look forward to those days in short order. The Tigers just so happen to lead all Major League Baseball teams in top-50 prospects with five according to Baseball America:
– Spencer Torkelson
– Tarik Skubal
– Casey Mize
– Matt Manning
– Riley Greene
Of course, Torkelson was drafted by the Tigers with the 1st overall selection in the most recent MLB Draft. Other players on the list gained their first MLB experience last season, with Skubal appearing in 8 games while compiling a 1-4 record with 5.63 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 32.0 innings pitched.
Mize, who was selected by the Tigers with the 1st overall pick in 2018, recorded 0-3 record with 6.99 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 28 1⁄3 innings pitched in 2020.
Brighter days are ahead for baseball in Detroit, and we’re looking forward to it!
