The Detroit Red Wings have plenty of cap space to play around with for next season following the departures of Jonathan Ericsson, Trevor Daley and Jimmy Howard coupled with today’s waiving of Justin Abdelkader for purposes of a buyout.
Tonight, they’ll take the next step forward with their rebuild when select 4th overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
But could they be considering a trade?
According to TSN hockey insider Frank Seravalli, there are several players who are reportedly “in play” to potentially be moved, and among those players include a handful of Tampa Bay Lightning forwards.
Of course, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman is familiar with all of them.

Among the Lightning players that Seravalli included in his list are Steven Stamkos, Tyler Johnson, Yanni Gourde, and Alex Killorn.
Johnson, Gourde and Killorn have been previously linked to the Red Wings as potential possibilities to acquire via trade, while Stamkos was rumored to have been on Detroit’s radar before signing an 8-year deal (with then-GM Yzerman) to remain with the Lightning.
