5 Bold Predictions for Michigan State in 2016

4. LJ Scott will be in the running for the Heisman Trophy, and win Big Ten OPOTY

LJ Scott - The Reach

DSN football guru Zach Fanko is drinking the LJ Scott Kool-aid this year:

“Make no mistake about it, the sophomore Scott is the leader at the running back position, and has even drawn comparisons to ex-Spartan great Le’Veon Bell.

The tale of the tape: Scott is 6-foot-1, 230 pounds. Bell is 6-foot-1, 225 pounds. Scott averaged 4.8 yards per carry last season with 11 touchdowns. Bell averaged 4.7 yards per carry and scored 12 touchdowns during his final year with the Spartans.

Obviously Bell had more yards and attempts his junior year than Scott did his freshman year, but Scott’s numbers were still rather impressive. He finished one yard shy of 700, and showed the combination of speed and power the Spartans were blessed with during the years of Bell and Jeremy Langford.

The Spartans will lean heavily on Scott this year, who should break out as one the best offensive players in the Big Ten, and it won’t stop there. With Scott rushing the Spartans to another Big Ten title and Playoff berth, he will be solidly in the Heisman discussion until the very end.”
