5 College players to watch as potential Lions’ draft picks

If the NFL season ended today, the Detroit Lions would have the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. There’s still a lot of season to play, but it seems inevitable that the Lions will be one of the top teams picking when next year’s draft rolls around.
With the college football season already being half over, it’s time to start keeping an eye on a few of the players that Detroit could target with their top pick. DSN is here to give you five names to keep an eye on for the rest of the season, as any of these guys could be the next great Lions’ player to wear the Honolulu Blue.

Robert Nkemdiche, DT, Junior, Ole Miss
Ole Miss DT
The best defensive tackle in this upcoming draft class, Nkemdiche looks to be a can’t miss prospect. After losing Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley in the offseason, Detroit has struggled mightily in getting constant production from their DT’s. Nkemdiche could come in and start immediately for this Lions team. The junior leads an Ole Miss defense in tackles with 50+ so far this season.
Remaining Schedule:
Saturday, Nov. 21 vs. LSU
Saturday, Nov. 28 @ Mississippi State

Joey Bosa, DE, Junior, Ohio State
Bosa
Coming into the 2015-16 season, Bosa was nearly a consensus as the top pick for the 2016 NFL Draft. While he no longer is the consensus pick, Bosa is still one of the top players available, and the top DE in the draft. If drafted by the Lions, Bosa could come in and start opposite DE Ziggy Ansah from day one and turn Detroit’s pass rush into a strength once again. With a sack in each of his last three games, Bosa seems to finally be hitting his stride this season, so be sure to keep on eye on the junior pass-rusher as the lights get brighter and brighter for Ohio State.
Remaining Schedule:
Saturday, Nov. 14 @ Illinois
Saturday, Nov. 21 vs. Michigan State
Saturday, Nov. 28 @ Michigan

Jared Goff, QB, Junior, California
Goff
Goff has jumped up draft boards over the past month, surpassing both Connor Cook (Michigan State) and Christian Hackenberg (Penn State) as the top rated QB heading into the upcoming draft. The junior has passed for over 260 yards in every game this season and already has 22 TDs on the year. With a cannon for an arm, Goff could be just the guy to come in and take over for Matthew Stafford if the Lions decide to part ways with the former No.1 overall pick, as was reported to be a possibility this week.
Remaining Schedule:
Saturday, Nov. 14 vs. Oregon State
Saturday, Nov. 21 @ Stanford
Saturday, Nov. 28 vs. Arizona State

Ronnie Stanley, OT, Senior, Notre Dame
Ronnie
Offensive lineman aren’t the most fun players to watch on a football field, but Lions fan will need to keep an eye on some of the top college tackles because Detroit very well could end up drafting one with their top pick in 2016. Current LT Riley Reiff has been disappointing almost from the moment he was drafted in 2012. With the likes of Stanley and Ole Miss’s Laremy Tunsil on the board, don’t be surprised to see the Lions draft another LT and see if Reiff can perform better at the RT position.
Saturday, Nov. 14 vs. Wake Forest
Saturday, Nov. 21 @ Boston College
Saturday, Nov. 28 @ Stanford

Laremy Tunsil, OT, Junior, Ole Miss

Ole Miss OT

Tunsil and Stanley are the two top OL prospects in the upcoming draft. Tunsil is only a junior, but if he decides to declare for the draft, he’ll probably be the top target on a number of teams boards. Depending on where the Lions end up, either Stanley or Tunsil will most likely be available and either could end up being Detroit’s starting LT next year. With two Ole Miss players on this list, Lions fans should tune in and watch the Rebels on a weekly basis as Tunsil or Nkemdiche could very well be sporting the Honolulu Blue come 2016.

Remaining Schedule:
Saturday, Nov. 21 vs. LSU
Saturday, Nov. 28 @ Mississippi State
