Enter one of the class rivalries in college football, on the level of independents no less!

Well technically, the Naval Academy athletics is a part of the American Athletic Conference, but it still feels like they’re an independent program much like their private Catholic school counterparts they will share the field with on Saturday MORNING down in Jacksonville.

As the general college football fan knows, Navy is as steady as they are respected. They’ve appeared in a bowl game all but one year since 2003 and are coming off a program-best 11 wins in 2015. They were briefly ranked in the top 25 a couple weeks ago but not presently. Another win over the Irish will put them back in a bowl game.

Notre Dame mean while has an outside shot to salvage their season by winning three of their final four games and getting to a bowl game… not that they’ll exactly “settle” for that, because it is Notre Dame. Nevertheless, you take what you can. As good as Navy has been over the years, Notre Dame just toys with them, they lead the all-time series 76-12-1, including five straight wins.
