Desmond King (CB) – Iowa or Marlon Humphrey (CB) – Alabama
As stated previously, the Detroit Lions broke a record in 2016 that they would rather have left alone as they allowed a 72.7% completion rate to opposing quarterbacks. One reason for that was the fact they could not get enough pressure on the quarterback, but another reason was that the Lions secondary left much to be desired. Darius Slay was ok (not great) and Glover Quinn was solid as always but other than that, the Lions secondary did not do much to help win football games.
Two cornerbacks who could start immediately for the Lions are Desmond King and Marlon Humphrey. King (who could even be moved to free safety) was one of the top defensive backs in the Big Ten in 2016. He may not have perfect size but he makes up for it with his physicality both in the passing game and against the run. Humphrey, on the other hand, has great size and length and if he performs well at the combine, he could skyrocket up the draft board. While at Alabama, he made plays and stood out on a defense that was tough to stand out on. He could end up being the perfect complement to Darius Slay.
