Outcoached
Not surprisingly, the Lions coaching staff was outcoached by the Seahawks coaching staff. When Seattle had the football, they attacked the Lions defensive line with an inspired Thomas Rawls rushing attack and defensive coordinator Teryl Austin did not have an answer. The Seahawks was even able to score a huge touchdown on a fourth-and-2 play from the Lions 2 when quarterback Russell Wilson was able to find Paul Richardson, who made an amazing catch in the end zone. (Though Richardson should have been called for a facemask penalty on the play)

When the Lions had the football, Jim Bob Cooter’s play calling left much to be desired. The Lions offense was never able to get the ball inside the Seahawks 33 yard line and never threatened to score a touchdown. On one of the biggest plays early on in the game, the Lions had the ball on fourth-and-1 from the Seahawks 38. Rather than just banging the ball inside with Zach Zenner, or quarterback sneaking with Stafford, Cooter called a ridiculous play which ended with Stafford rolling to his right and throwing to TE Matthew Mulligan behind the line of scrimmage for a two-yard loss.
