Key players are starting to produceÂ
Several players on the Red Wings’ roster this season have greatly underperformed. Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar were ghosts in the first half, while Dylan Larkin has not improved nor regressed and Andreas Athanasiou has been inconsistent.
As of late, each of these players has been a huge part of Detroit’s recent success. Nyquist has scored three goals (including the tying goal against Boston) and recorded six points over his last four games. Tatar (3) and Larkin (2) both had multiple points against Boston and saw a lot of ice time. Athanasiou has been red-hot since being a healthy scratch and has scored five goals along with eight points in his last seven games.
If Nyquist, Tatar, Larkin, and Athanasiou are able to be consistent producers for the second half of the season and limit the slumps, this will greatly help Detroit’s playoff chances.
